This refrigerated shipping container home in San Francisco, California, incorporates three pre-insulated containers into the structure of this three-bedroom, 1350-square-foot house. Made to withstand tremendous loads and, with built-in refrigerated units, to keep a low constant temperature, these refrigerated shipping containers make excellent architectural building blocks and they easily meet the existing building codes.
Re-purposing used refrigerated shipping containers is extremely resource efficient. The containers act as weatherproof exterior siding, insulation, and structural frame.... Minimal insulation needs to be added on the roof and floor. Framing is only needed where bay windows and interior partition walls are added. The house was also designed to minimize energy use through passive solar design. Deep eaves minimize summer solar gain while allowing winter solar heating. Well-placed windows supply excellent daylighting and summer ventilation. Additional energy and water-saving features such as stacked plumbing, roof rainwater collection, high efficacy lighting, and Solatubes further reduce ecological impacts.
Three 40′ refrigerated shipping containers were used to build this home in San Francisco, California. Two containers were stacked on top of each other and the third container was cut in half. The refrigerated shipping containers are separated by an inner atrium with large floor-to-ceiling windows.

Shipping containers have already been transformed into trendy homes, and in the near future, they will become automated robot-restaurants as well.
Presenting Mezli – the San Francisco-based startup that has taken robotic restaurants to a whole new level. The innovative team has launched their Mediterranean bowl meals from a ghost kitchen in California and is now hard at work constructing the automated restaurant part of it. This exciting concept promises an experience like no other. Upon completion, the self-sufficient restaurant will be able to cook, plate and package food without any manual input.... Mezli’s first iteration will possess 15 ingredients which it can then strategically place in a container, rather than just randomly mixing them or merely piling them on top of each other.
Mezli is just getting started on its mission, yet it can’t even tell you how many dishes its robot will be able to prepare in an hour. But they’ve already obtained a pre-seed round of funding and plan to have the first autonomous kitchen spot up and running within the month! If this inaugural robotic restaurant proves popular, there’s a strong chance one could appear near you soon enough!
