Used Shipping Containers for Sale Newark NJ: Rent vs Buy
October 21, 2026
In the busy city of Atlanta, where trains carry millions of boxcars each year, an exciting idea became real. Glen Donaldson, inspired by homes made from shipping containers in Europe, decided to bring this cool idea to Atlanta. His journey from getting inspired to making it happen shows not only creativity but also how modern homes can be efficient and affordable.
Glen Donaldson’s trip to Europe brought back more than just memories; it sparked an idea that would change part of Atlanta. When he came back, he was surprised to see no similar homes in a city with so many resources. With a clear plan, Donaldson started looking for the right place for his project. He needed land that was cheap and in a neighborhood that liked modern designs. His search paid off, marking the first step to making his dream real.
You might think finding six huge “high cube containers”, each almost ten feet tall, in busy Atlanta would be hard. But Donaldson found it quite easy, showing how efficient the project was. With help from a good architect, he designed a three-story townhome that not only had a garage but also made the most of using recycled shipping containers.
Choosing “high cube” containers on purpose gave more space and made the inside feel roomy. This choice shows how the project focused on mixing efficiency with comfort, making sure the home met all needs without losing style.
The first container home sits on a lot that’s eighty feet deep and narrows to just twenty-seven feet wide. The second one stretches along an eighty by seventeen-foot plot. These layouts show how smart thinking about space can turn small lots into cool homes.
Donaldson’s project is a great example of how good design can change small plots into homes that are practical and look nice. It proves that limits can spark creativity, leading to answers that are both useful and beautiful.
Glen Donaldson’s container home in Atlanta is a sign of new ideas, showing how modern, eco-friendly living can work. Finished in 2007, this project is not just what Donaldson dreamed of but also shows how being efficient, affordable, and making customers happy are important.
By getting things done well and sure, Donaldson proved that making a unique, eco-friendly home is possible with a clear plan and hard work. This project isn’t just a different way to live compared to regular homes but also sets the stage for more eco-friendly living ideas, proving that being smart and affordable can match modern style and comfort.
Looking ahead to the future of homes, Donaldson’s shipping container house in Atlanta is a strong model of how new ideas, along with care for being efficient and pleasing customers, can make real change happen.
