IICL containers are known for their high quality and long-lasting build, available in two conditions: new and used. New ones are in perfect condition, ideal for reliable long-term shipping. Used IICL containers, while second-hand, are carefully checked and updated to meet IICL’s high standards, providing an affordable option without sacrificing quality.
New One Trip IICL
New One-Trip IICL Containers are newly manufactured units sold after being shipped once from Asia to the US and Canada, loaded with goods to offset repositioning costs. These trips may cause minor dents, scratches, and some surface rust, which are normal and considered minimal, but the containers remain in excellent condition. Built without shipping line logos, they are painted in solid colors like tan, gray, or blue. They come with necessary decals indicating container numbers, dimensions, and storage capacity, which can be removed upon delivery.
Used IICL
A Used IICL container meets the stringent inspection requirements set by the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL). These requirements are known as the strictest criteria for damage tolerance limits as specified in the IICL-6 Guide for Container Equipment Inspection – Sixth Edition (IICL-6).
Most used IICL containers are younger than used Cargo Worthy containers. These younger containers are more expensive since they are in better condition and they have not been fully depreciated. IICL containers have limited availability since most are still “In Service” by the shipping lines. However, if you need one, On-site Storage Solutions does offer them in many locations across the United States and Canada.
If you plan to ship your container internationally your shipping company will require a survey inspection report. For an additional fee, On-Site Storage Solutions can arrange for an independent IICL-certified inspector to provide a survey inspection report of your container and placement of an updated CSC sticker confirming your cargo is worthy.
The cost of a Used IICL container will depend on the size, condition, and location. For customers concerned about the appearance of their container, many upgrade to new one-trip containers instead of used IICL since the pricing difference is not usually that great and considering the new container will have new factory paint.
You can expect an IICL container to have the following:
Our most popular grade, Wind and Water Tight containers are used shipping containers that are guaranteed not to leak.
Although they won’t leak, you can expect WWT shipping containers to have original paint, surface rust, dents, and abrasions from heavy-duty shipping service. The external appearance might even be ugly for these containers.
Cargo Worthy shipping containers have been inspected and deemed to be structurally sound and safe for international transport by sea, rail, and road.
Externally, it will have original paint (color may vary), old shipping markings, surface rust, abrasions, and dents. If you need a container for export, it will need to have a container survey and a valid CSC inspection sticker.
An As Is container is a shipping container that has been inspected and found to be damaged so severely that it will cost too much to repair to make it Wind and Water Tight.
There will be external and internal issues with the container such as holes, broken flooring, and other structural issues. Generally, we do not recommend that customers buy an As Is container unless it will be used for some purpose where structural soundness and exterior is not required.

IICL containers are shipping containers that adhere to the standards set by the Institute of International Container Lessors, ensuring quality, structural integrity, and compliance with international shipping regulations.
The IICL serves as an industry organization that establishes and promotes standards for container lessors worldwide, including guidelines for container inspection, maintenance, and repair.
IICL containers are typically marked with an IICL logo or label, indicating that they have been inspected and meet the organization’s standards.
IICL containers provide added assurance of quality and compliance with industry standards. They undergo rigorous inspections, maintenance, and repair processes, leading to enhanced durability and reliability.
The cost of IICL containers may vary depending on factors such as size, condition, location, and market demand. In some cases, IICL containers may have a slightly higher price due to their adherence to higher quality standards.
